The hobos

Hello! We're just two guys who have recently decided to chuck it all and travel the world according to our whim. And finances. Pesky finances.

We’re lately from Seattle. And San Diego. And Denver. And Portland. We grew up in rural Oregon separated by roughly 45 miles. Far enough to have not met until we were both adults.

We’ve been rattling around this big world of ours together since 1991. And we’ve become keenly aware that there’s So. Much. To. See. Potentially too much, honestly, but we’re going to give it a shot.

So we put the treasures into a self-storage unit, sold everything else, and drove away to begin our lives as hobos in San Diego. We hope to venture from there into the farthest reaches of this wonderful planet. Maybe not too farthest. I mean, they’ll have to have coffee. And we plan on keeping you abreast of our follies with updates on a weekly (um, strike that) semi-regular (er, no) monthly (what am I? superhuman?) mostly occasional and uncommitted basis.

But who are we, you ask?

Hmmm…well, Rick is a recovering attorney and ex-bureaucrat with ideas and talents that far exceeded what was required of him for so many of his “productive” years. Geoff still dabbles in marketing, though at a much-reduced pace. Rick is the yin to Geoff’s yang. Geoff tends toward long walks that involve a ridiculous amount of picture-taking and Rick tends toward patiently walking ahead and shaking his head. Geoff is mostly famous for rearranging the furniture in every hotel room or Airbnb. He claims it’s to improve the layout and comfort, but Rick thinks it might more likely be a relatively benign form of OCD.

Things we both like: any form of local hooch (palinka, arak, ouzo—though based on countess online reports, fermented yak milk will probably not make the list); any Star Trek, including the bad ones; dancing at weddings; cartoons, both TV- and movie-length; sunny, sandy beaches; food with friends; food with just us; food in any context, but mostly pie; and coffee.

Things we don’t like: brussels sprouts and Dr Pepper. So you can forget having us over for these.

Join us—online or in person—as we create the stories of our travels, discover more quirks, and learn valuable lessons. Together we'll embrace the world one adventure at a time. Cheers to exploration, friendship, and the thrilling unknown!
